Subject Verb Agreement Proofreading

If the subject of the sentence – the rich of the plot – is a singular subject (that is, a rich one), the verb (the plot it executes) is always singular. But beware: this rule applies even if sentences that modify the subject or that are parenthesis elements in parentheses in the plural. You just need to be able to realize that these sentences and parentheses are not the main theme and therefore do not count in determining the number of verbs. Collective nouns such as “group” are grammatically singular and therefore adopt a singular verb, although they mean several people or things. Here are the common collective nouns: 2 Exercise 2: Correction Reading for Subject-Verb Conformity Errors – Sets Circle the Subjects and Underline the Verbs. Make an arrow in the verb its subject. If the sentence has a subject-verb conformity error, remove the wrong verb and write the correct verb form about it. 1. Calcium, one of the most common elements in the world, is important for the growth of strong bones and teeth. 2. Every animal needs calcium for its health. 3. Calcium is also used for many other purposes.

4. Already in ancient Egyptian times, historians tell us about the use of calcium as a building material. 5. In nature, this important element is still present as a compound like calcium carbonate and calcium fluoride. 6. Lack of calcium can be a serious problem. 7. The calcium-lacking bone is fragile and breaks easily. 8. Older people, especially older women, often have osteoporosis. 9. Osteoporosis is a disease that causes calcium deficiency in the bones.

10. In Canada, one in four women over the age of fifty suffers from osteoporosis. 11. A person with osteoporosis can break a bone by sending simple daily activities such as walking, hugging or coughing. 12. Anyone with osteoporosis should consume calcium-rich foods daily. 13. The verb is not necessarily singular simply because it is in front of the verb (where the subject is usually located) and appears as a singular pronoun. Why it`s right: Although the subject seems plural because it is a link between a plural and a singular noun, it is considered a singular dish and therefore takes the singular verblage `is` instead of the plural.” Why is it true: Although the subject seems pluralistic because it ends with s and the singular “ethics” is also a legitimate word, it acts in this case as a singular entity, because it is a field of study and therefore takes the singular verb”. The plural noun, composite noun, and plural pronouns Indefinite subjects accept plural verbs. Composite subjects, by or not connected, accept verbs that correspond in number to the nouns closest to them. In the bad example above, the connection of the two singular nouns probably made the confused scribe think that the verb should be plural as it is when and connects the subjects.

However, whether or not the subject is connected, the verb must match the subject noun just before. Look for the names of subjects (the main acts of the action) and the main heirs that the subject takes, and then make sure that both are singular. Be particular attention to verbs that are falsely plural in form, because nouns are plural just before them, although they are only a part of the sentences that modify the main subject. The great thing about the English language is that there are endless ways to say something while being grammatically correct, as long as you know what makes a sentence correct. If you don`t, check paragraphs 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 above, until you can recognize the main subnun and verb in each sentence and determine if they are missing….
